With more than 32,000 students at 10 faculties, JGU Mainz is one of the biggest universities in Germany. The university was named after Johannes Gutenberg, who invented the printing press with movable type in Europe in the 15th century. His invention revolutionized book printing and was a tremendous contribution to science.

The history of the city dates back 2,000 years, when the Romans started to cultivate grapes along the river Rhine. Today, the region is still known for its wine specialties and is one of the biggest German wine growing areas.

Mainz is the state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is a striving and lively city, which is as rich in culture as in joie de vivre.
